Sam Travis earned 2013 Big Ten Most Outstanding Player honors at Indiana University with a .347/.415/.576 slash line, 12 home runs and 58 RBIs in 59 games. After starring for Yarmouth-Dennis in the Cape Cod League (.339 AVG, 35 RBIs), Boston selected him 67th overall in the 2014 draft for $846,800. Travis moved rapidly through the minors, hitting .333/.364/.448 with 30 RBIs for Low-A Lowell and .290/.330/.495 for Single-A Greenville in 2014, then combining for .307/.381/.452 with 78 RBIs between High-A Salem and Double-A Portland in 2015. He reached the majors in 2017 and played 111 games across three seasons for Boston, posting a .230 average with 7 home runs and 24 RBIs while becoming one of the few MLB players to never wear batting gloves. Travis now coaches hitting mechanics, drawing from his experience advancing through every level of professional baseball.
